I believe the stock thermostat back then was 150 degrees. This probably corresponds to the left end of the "NORMAL" range on the OEM temperature gage. The right end of "NORMAL" likely then corresponds to 212 degrees (or perhaps 220 for a pressurized cooling system). For what it's worth I've found my Super M (equipped with an Stewart-warner 100 - 240 deg electric temp gage) runs better and uses a little less fuel when run at 180 - 190 degrees vs the factory 150. This is especially so under idle and light load conditions. So I now run 180 t'stats in both my tractors (SH and SM) now.
