We have two 656's. One is a International utility 656 Diesel Hydro and the other is a Farmall 656 Diesel hydro. Wouldnt trade them for nothing. Not the best for heavy tillage but as far as hay work goes you can always find the right gear. But like rewall said when they break you better have DEEEEEEEEP pockets. As far as looking at them drive it if you can. Listen for abnormal noises in the tranny. They will make a decent amount of noise. Just the nature of the beast. But excessive amounts I would run away from. Try locking down the brakes and trying to make it move in high range and low range. In high range it should kill the motor. In low range it should move the tractor.
