Pete: I would suggest that you start with the numbers series of Farmalls for a loader. That way you can get the options of multiple spool hydraulics (so that you can have a hydraulic bucket as well), power steering, and I would encourage you to consider wide front if you are using a row crop tractor. You just have so much safer footing that way. The first number series are the 300 and 400 from the mid 1950's. Good luck.
