Do a search on leaded fuels on this site. The "lead substitute" of course has no lead in it,That would be illegal to sell. The TEL (tetra ethyl lead) Was used to increase Octane to prevent knocking as the compression ratios were raised. In the 20's,the ratio was about 3:1,and little horsepower was made despite engine size. How to get more horses? Raise the ratio, making the engine more efficient. But,they found that more pressure caused knocks and pings. Long story short,TEL was discovered,as well as Alcohol (Gasahol!) to prevent the knocks and pings, valve wear prevention had NOTHING to do with the addition of TEL. The MINOR effect of valve stem lubrication from tetra ethyl lead was just a side effect, gas makers did not put lead in the fuels for valves, but for Octane. Today's Oils are far superior in protecting valve stems than Yesterday's oils,so the question remains-Why do they make Lead substitute? Because the masses will buy it! How often do you see "Fat Burner Pills" on TV? Do they work? NO! Do They Sell? YES! If the plugs are fouling, there is a problem like mis-adjusted carb,or worn valves,or worn rings (most likeley). I am not an "instant expert", I Am The Expert. At least that's what my college professor said. I'm sure I'll catch some flack from the diehards,But This stuff is Snake Oil. I'll Be happy to entertain questions-but do a site search on this subject first.

In such cases, rework makes what could have been a fun project turn into an irritant or even a nightmare. Minor Irritants To give you an example of an minor but irritating proble
