John, my thoughts.... The coil is a little step up transformer that supplies high voltage to the spark plugs, to prevent the coil from burning up the voltage needs to be reduced on the feed side of coil.. Twice the voltage coming in = Twice the voltage going to spark plugs... Again this is what i know to be the case... I could be wrong
