So far the price is right. Tires and rims look good and it has some goodies that are normally missing like the grill insert, battery box and PTO shield. Those 3 items are probably worth 150.00, although the battery box lid is missing. Doesn't look like an original precleaner, but they are not hard to find. It even has the gearshift knob, which looks original. Hard to tell in the picture. Also, the front grill looks to be good. Normally they are bent. I'd say with the power steering, good sheet metal, not to mention the mower, you could go up a few hundred more and still have a good deal. It appears that the owner has taken care of it, and I suspect it may have lower than the average number of hours on it. It wouldn't hurt to ask the seller some questions like, does it smoke, and if so, what color smoke? Do the gears all work? Any strange noises? Okay, nuff from me. Fred KS

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
