Farmall H radiator: Northern vs. Tisco Re: K-Mo

As stated on my previous reply to K-MO last week I returned the no good fit Northern H radiator and ordered a radiator from Tisco. The Tiscon radiator is different and MUCH better! The quickest way to tell the two apart (over the phone etc.) is the Tisco has a cast iron lower outlet/drain fitting exactly like the origianl IH and the Northern has a tin outlet pipe with a seperate drain. Other differences: 1. Tisco bottom plate is tucked inside the side sheets not outside like the Norther. 2. The filler neck is located in the same place as the IH grill hole, Norther isn't. 3. The Tisco is the same height as the IH and the grill holes line up, Norhtern isn't the same. 4. The grooves in the Tisco upper tank look exactly like the IH, the Norhtern didn't. 5. The fan housing attached much better to the Tisco although I had to ream a few holes. 6. The Tisco side sheets look identical to the IH, the Northern stuck out to far near the top and spread the grill. The only problem with the Tisco was attaching the rod support bracket with the four short 1/4" bolts. The top two did not line up so I drilled new holes about 1" lower where the radiator is stronger. This was minor. I installed a new IH radiator on our SMTA in about 1980 and had minor problems with it so I am not complaining. I purchased the Tisco from Downing Tractor Parts (800-472-2815) who are returning a pallet of Northerns. Steel Wheel Ranch sells the Tisco also. It seems funny that the only radiator available for an H a few months ago was the $500+ hand made one and now two other companies are building them. Hope this helps someone. K-MO and this site sure saved me from a disaster!
