six to twelve volt question

I have a 1955 farmall 400 gas and want to convert from a six to a twelve volt. The two wires to the generator from the voltage regulator on the left side by the clutch peddle. The one single large wire that comes from the generator, can i just hook up that wire to the posative on my alternator (probably a $48 delco remmy) and the other wire up to the tracotr for a ground? if not, how. and does anyone know where i can find a wiring diagram for twelve volt or who has one?
