The B450 was built at Doncaster in England from 1959 to 1969 or 1970. It was fitted with the BD264 engine that started with the aid of glowplugs next to the injector and heat up the precombustion chamber, the injector pump had an excess fuel devise to aid cold weather starting. They were fitted with a pneumatic governor untill 1967 when the production line was moved to the Carr hill factory a few miles away and they then had the same mechanical governor that had been fitted to the B614.( the B614 was designed to replace the B450 but the B450 was a more popular machine and stayed in production long after the 614 hit the dust.) I worked a B450 during the 1960s and it was considered by most people to be the best tractor for heavy work available in the UK at that time. However, if the battery was not in tip top condition and the heaters used for too short a time the tractor would not start, it sure needed a lot of heat. They were often used by poor drivers and as a result gained a bad reputation for starting in the cold. The Day Tractor Lovers Dream About - by Angus Crawford. The day started at five o'clock on the morning of Friday, the January 29, 1999. My father, my sister, my uncle, my cousin and myself all climbed into my uncle's Toyota van. It was six thirty in the morning and we had a long day ahead. We traveled for six and a half hours to our destination - a little country town with a population of no more then one hundred and fifty people (57 of them being children under the age of thirteen). We arrived hoping to meet up with a man we knew had over one
