I agree with other posts that you don't need to remove the cab but you will probably have to take the left side cover off to put the top back on. Getting the reverse shaft lined up with the top plate requires that you be able to see what you are doing. First you need to open the plate in the floorboard then blow or wash all the dirt from the top of the trans before removing the top cover. That's an area where lots of things like to rest. Also if you can tighten up the holes on any of the linkage and pins it will make a lot of difference in how good it shifts.
