unless you want to return the engine to a like new condition it's not too hard to determine what is needed ...if engine is now running good...do a compression check.... if low squirt a little oil in the spark plug holes and spin the engine over and retest.... if compression comes up it means the valves are good but needs rings ....if compression don't come up the valves may need lapping not a expensive complete valve job........................... check the bearings with plasti gage to determine if they are worn ....... worn bearings can cause smoking as well as excessive oil use ........... defective intake valve seals allow oil to be sucked in with the gas and cause smoking and oil use .
