Farming has involved a wide range of tilling implements over the years. The impliments uses have a little bit wider range since they have been used in various other ways then there original intended use. Plowing for instance was initially designed to roll the dirt over. Since it throws dirt one way, it is commonly used for conservational purposes of rolling the dirt uphill on terraces when framing hill ground. One use never even thought about when the plow was designed and an example of how other uses have come about. One thing you are sure to find is that everybody tills the ground and farms differently. In my area, no-till farming is taking a bigger and bigger roll in modern day farming unlike it was 40 or 50 years ago when farmers tilled the ground several various ways over the course of 1 farming year. Generally speaking a plow rolls the dirt over, a disc breaks up clods and levels or lightly works up unworked ground, cultivater can do the same as disk or can be used for weed controll and working planted ground, a harrow puts the finishing touches on breaking up and leveling all ready worked ground or if lightly used can be used for seed cover, a disc plow does the same thing as a plow but crumbles up the ground a little more than a regular plow, and there are many more implements to numerous to go on but these are some maybe more popular ones.
