My father-in-law worked for John Deere for many years and had given my wife a book about farm implements put out by John Deere way back in the 50's. It does a nice job of explaining about tractors and all sorts of implements for tractors of that vintage. The book was designed for ag students (?high school or junior college). If you live near an ag college (or land grant college/university), I'm sure you could find some neat older books in the library that would show pictures and give theory on farming implements. Good luck.
