I think another thing to check for is a worn-out imput shaft bearing. It comes into the front of the transmission housing it acts like a clutch pilot bearing . The main transmission shaft fits into it and it has a snap ring too,if its worn when in 2nd gear the sliding gear will ting (or hit ) against the gears on the second shaft the noise is worrysome. To get at it the platform must be removed so not an easy one hour job. hope for the best Tom
