You have to set the voltage regulater up to about 9 volts to keep a 6 volt battery chargrd up. It would be about as simple to go to 12 volt. Get a 12 volt regulater and a resister in the wire from the switch to the coil and your ready to go. The 12 volt battery is probably a lot cheaper the the 8 volt anyway.
