Eric, I got a couple of mine to clean up, but most didn't. You can go through all the $ to chrome but I would think a high luster chrome paint would reflect enough for the old 6 volt bulbs. If the oval spot was to the front and on top that was caused by bulb heat I believe.The two way lamps had a brass stem and a 1/2" tall by 1/2" wide (app) metal knob with a set screw on one side. I have seen the plastic knob also but dont remember much about it. Hope this helps ED
