M 2-way hydraulic valve control

Thinking about adding a 2-way hydraulic valve to my 48 M. Is there anything special needed other than "locking" the original lift-all actuater rod in fully back ("on") position. Also, this tractor has a heisler overdrive in it. Would there be problems with blowing seals in the lift-all if the overdrive is used. (Reason for asking..as a kid, our M was set up the same way and Dad always knew when I had used the overdrive 'cause it would blow seals in the hydraulic pump). Could Dad have been wrong? Service manual is of no help with this.
