Like you say, what ever works for you. Superstitous? maybe, but all religion is. If a fellow finds it helpful to believe in a certain thing to make his life go smoother, there is certainly no harm in that. I never met a war mongering hindu. There is a lot to be said for a guy who will make a point to be as helful as he has been helped. Two years ago I was heading to Cape Cod with a midget race car in the back of my pickup, and in Rhode Island, without warning, the rear axel housing of my pickup broke in half and fell to the ground, as I coasted to a stop amid a huge shower of sparks like a comet, and smoke from my new tires rubbing the fenders.
When I got out and surveyed the damage, I knew I was in trouble. I phoned my son to come get the race car in his pickup, and phoned my friend who has a trailer to pickup the pickup, and phoned my girlfriend to give me a ride home, they all arrived about the same time. As we stood there wondering what to do after moving the race car, a guy came by towing a trailer with a skid steer on it. He came back a minute later and offered to move the pickup onto the trailer. He had it on the trailer in seconds, then reloaded the skid steer. I offered money, but he said to just help the next person in trouble along the road. He said he was helped a while ago, and now it was his turn. Now that was good Karma..
I told my girlfriend about this discussion of what we found along the road, and she said the best thing she ever found on the side of the road was me safe after that wild ride down the road at 60mph with the rear end making sparks right under the gas tank of my 25 year old truck. I asked if that was better than some of the stuff she has found on spring cleaning week, when folks put junk by the road for the town crew to pick up, and she said sure. Guess it was a good idea to stop at the chocolate factory and get a big box all wrapped pretty, huh? Valentine day tomorrow.
