I have a Super A from about 1949 and it also has the freeze plug mentioned. The hydraulic unit is all one piece.
I have noticed however that some latter model Super A's had a differnt hydraulic unit in that the very top section was a seperate piece that bolted on to the rest of the unit. Perhaps the freeze plug were used just on the earlier one piece type unit?
