I'm not sure about farmall A engines but i do know that most of the time the rings have a right side up and down. If this engine does and you put one of those rings the wrong way it will actually pump oil. and the staggered gaps run it if it has oil pressure. Maybe even put it under a load. thats my opinion. typically the oil ring doesn't have a right side up and down--
