In addition to what the other guys have said... Make sure your pulleys are not only aligned properly, but that they both STAY aligned through a complete rotation--i.e., that you do not have a bent pulley or a bent shaft. Also, if it's a V-groove pulley, sometimes a wood chip or a piece of stick will lodge in the bottom of the groove. The belt will squish it into place and polish it nicely, giving you a little wooden bump that can throw the belt. Mark W.
