Years ago a retired Cat diesel mechanic told about dumping a small amount of Bon Ami into the intake manifold to help seat the rings after a rebuild on old earthmover engines. Never knew for sure if he was blowing smoke (or if the motors blew smoke after such treatment!) but he swore it was true. Personally however I'd run a motor without oil before I'd dump an abrasive - even a mild one like Bon Ami - into the intake air!! If your friend's 460 has been sitting idle for some time, the low compression could be the result of dry cylinder walls. You might try spraying a liberal quantity of WD-40 or similar spray lube into the intake while cranking the engine. If dry rings are the problem, WD-40 will lube and help seal them and may allow the motor to start.
