I actually used this process on an old John Deere model "E" one lunger. It worked really well to get it started and as far as I know it is still running. I think the key to this discussion is that your friend is going to overhaul the engine this summer anyway. The worst that can happen is that it will hasten the overhaul a little bit. I say, be adventurous and give it a try. If the engine is going to be overhauled anyway, you have nothing to lose. If it does work, then you will have something to talk about and you can say "TOLD YOU SO" to all the nay-sayers ( somethimes that is priceless). Just my $0.02 worth. Dan
