Bill: I couldn't agree more. Last summer at Pennfield IH collectors assoc. put on much fanfare about that turbine tractor. I my opinion development of that tractor was money that would have been far better spent perfecting TA, IPTO and tractor configuration. I have always said Harry Ferguson won the hitch war before IH sold their first fast hitch. If IH had kept the 350-450 tractors another year, eliminated the 460-560 series, and went right to the 06 and 56 series. The next mistake in my opinion was 66 series a tractor not quite ready for production and after market was allready putting that quality of cab on the 56 series tractors. 66 series should have been eliminated gone right to 86 series. I contend had that been done things would be different today. Another example the 886, a beautiful tractor to operate. The first ones came with American 360 engine. In our area dealer probably sold more 886 than any other post 1964 tractor. Those first few 360 engines sold a lot of tractors. Most however, got the 358 German engine, a good engine, but it was no match for the American engine on torque. The John Deere boys were having their problems also. Some of those first inline upright engines, were not much to write home about. Your exactly right, down fall of IH started in late 50s. IH was managed by PANIC.

Some people feel this was one of the most significant tractors offered by Allis-Chalmers in those days. Nothing in its weight or power class could match its performance. In 1954 they began offering the WD45 with the new "Snap-Coupler&quo
