I liketo use a key type ignition for several reasons. I like to hook up the alternator, in particular, to the accessoryposition on a heyed switch so that when the key is off, the alternator is isolated from the battery. Diodes by their very nature bleed a little bit to ground. If one of them are bad, it bleeds a lot to ground. I like to hook the headlight switch, also to the accessory position. I like to have only ONE hot wire coming from the battery cable hookup. If a tractor is stored for some time, mice have a tendency to enjoy vinyl covered wire. No need in making too many of those wires hot.
