Just a comment on the sparkplugs that "supposedly improve power". Not sure which exact plugs you're referring to, but according to several top racing engine builders, all those special plugs(splitfire, v-groove, etc) dont add any power at all over a standard plug that's right for the application. A sparkplug is simply a device where there's a break in an electrical circut which causes the current to jump a gap creating a spark. No matter what the plug is, there's only gonna be one spark for each cycle. As long as the sparkplug elecrode isn't shrouded for example by having too short of a reach(thread length)where the elctrode doesnt extend into the combustion chamber, the proper application standard plug will give as much power as an engine is gonna produce. Better ignition systems("hotter" coils, electronic ignitions, etc) sometimes WILL increase power, but only if the stock system is overworked by the combustion chamber pressures. Which isn't likely on a low-RPM, low-compression tractor engine. You will likely see easier starts and smoother idles with these systems, but I doubt much top end power will be gained if the standard ignition was doing it's job.

Fabrication (Who Me? Make it myself?) - by Chris Pratt. First of all, what are the reasons for not fabricatin your own parts? Most judgements on what should be purchased rather than fabricated stem from: Originality - If the tractor restoration is to be 100% original, it is likely that you should spend the time and money to locate the component in the used or New-old-stock market. Since this can be extremely difficult, you may want to fabricate the item or purchase a modern replacement temporarily, but eventually, you s
