don't wait till fall get it in this spring and have all summer to grow grass. If ground is poor then fertilize it often as long as you have rain. plow it up as soon as you can, let it sit and rain or snow on it. first of april sooner or later depending on where you live start discing it up. always go at a different angle each time. Like he said let it rain on it would sow seed no later than middle of april in Ohio. after sowing grass seed disk it lightly only about 1" deep multiple passes are okay and prefered. pull a cultipacker over it if you have one or can get one.
