i'd try to take it to small claims court if you cant get anywhere with the seller first. the seller should pay for the repairs/make a good faith effort to defer the cost in my opinion. if the rest of the tractor is pretty good, repairing it would be the better choice (aside from the cost). parting it you could recover your loss and maybe more, depending on how far you unassemble to sell the parts. however when parting it gets to a point where no one is looking for what you have left because it's a non wear item and you are stuck with a bunch of "junk" taking up space. selling it as is you will never regain the $$ you put into it, but it will be out of your sight. it's a hard decision to make, go about it with what would make you happiest and work the best in the long run
