If that alternator is new, I'd take it back. A one-wire alternator is simple to install and shouldn't run the battery down. As Gary said, a faulty diode is usually the culprit. Now, a one-wire alternator needs more RPM to start charging. This might be your problem. Does your voltmeter show around 14 volts with your engine running at about half throttle? If not, it means that your alternator simply isn't charging. Two options here: One is to find a smaller pulley for the alternator. Another option is to take the alternator back and have it checked. If it is good, they might be willing to exchange it for a 3 wire alternator.
