Farmall H Rear End Work Question!

I have a 1951 Farmall H with a bad bearing on the left Bull Pinion shaft. I am not sure which bearing. I bought the tractor from a fellow for 375 dollars. It runs good but he says there is a bearing going out back there and thinks it is one of the bull pinion bearings.

Question:
Can I remove the bull Gear by sticking my arm in the PTO hole and then remove the bull pinion setup on one side without yanking the cover?
I can reach the bull gear retaining cap bolt through the PTO Hole. Will the bull gear free the bull pinion gear?
