M still wont charge

I hooked up the double pull b\double throw switch and still nothing. Then took alt off and to town tested on two testers good. One guy said I need a jumper wire from the bat terminal on the alt to the number 1 and 2 on the alt and still nothing. I took that off and hooked back up like the diagram and it still wont charge but shows how much battery I have left. One thing I dont have is a warning light. Could this stop it from charging? Also does it make a difference if it has a ammeter or volt?
