Not too abnormal...if it's cold weather! Make sure you have a good thermostat in it, and that the carburetor is in fact set rich enough. Some of them are a little more cold-blooded than others. I've got an M that doesn't need much choke to start, and almost never needs any to warm up unless the temperature is below freezing. My Super M insists on being choked when starting cold, and needs the choke about 1/3 to 1/2 on to run for the first couple of minutes, even in hot weather. Then it's fine! They all have their individual quirks and habits!
