Greg - Your generator is is a snap to disassemble. The front (pulley) end has a ball bearing - I don't know the part number, but it is clearly marked. A replacement is readily available at any bearing house, alternator shop, etc. The commutator end of the shaft is carried on a brass bushing pressed into the commutator end plate. Unless you have a small internal puller (or a tap the right size) getting the old bushing out can be tough. Best take it to an alternator shop and pay the guy a few $ to replace the bushing.

Gas in the crankcase can result from the carb being set too rich, excessive use of the choke, misfiring plugs, a bad (stuck open) thermostat, and short runs under light load in cold weather. Often it's a combination of several of these...
