Holler - I'm not sure I understand your question entirely. I'm assuming your H is already converted to 12 volt. Your 'six volt' starter will work just fine on a 12 volt system. The starter will spin faster and can overheat quicker if you just continue cranking a stubborn motor. I have a generator that was rebuilt for 12 volts and my 12 volt battery is positive grounded like the original. I have an inline ballast resistor to the distributor. I'm by no means an electrical wizard (there are some good ones on this board) but I don't think your starter cares whether the system is positive or negatively grounded. You can buy all the parts to rebuild your starter from a good IH dealer and its not hard. Take your starter to any good machine shop or auto parts dealer if you think its bad and they can test it for you. Don't know if I answered any of your questions but hope it helps some. BTW - your serial number would be correct for an H built in 1941. Good luck
