Your right Jerry, a properly cleaned and tuned 6 volt system will start a Super A anywhere, anytime. I will go one step further than you and include any 4 cylinder gas Farmall. I have 3 gas Farmalls, one has 12 volt system. Unless it works better in the next couple of years, it will once again become a 6 volt tractor. The vast number of guys on here tell you you need not change starter. They must have shares in companies that build starter drives and flywheel ring gears. I have seen 6 volt starter drives and ring gears last 20 years. You go 12 volt and you will change drive every 2 years and ring gear in 5 years. The 6 volt systems lasting 20 years were not on hobby farms or in the hands of tractor collectors. Starter drives are not the only problem. The biggest problem here is not voltage but rather the mickey mouse rebuilds and repair. 12 volt will not make that go away. I have in my day started gas 6 volt Farmalls when it was so cold I wished they wouldn't start. Example Farmall 300 at -40 with no starting assists of any kind.
