I have had excellent results welding manifolds with a welding rod called "Super Missileweld". It is a Harris/Welco product. It runs well on AC as well as DC, and is easy to work with.

It is a bit pricey, about $20. to $25. a pound, but my supplier sells it by the rod, due to the price.

When I use it, I stop often and peen the weld area well with a pointed slag hammer. It should give you an effective, long lasting repair.
