I had trouble with my Super A a couple of years ago. It sounds familiar with what you say is happening with your 240. If it sits around a long time, things will show. I first put new wires on and changed the points. After reading some comments on this forum, I checked the air cleaner and made sure that the oil was clean and not over filled. Some "valve medic" in a can was added to the oil. (Majic Beans)! Got tired of changing the # 3 spark plug and purchased another Brand. There was a good debate on the Forum about spark plug problems in Vintage Tractors (Champion vs Other Brands). After several warm ups it now runs good just as it did when I was a boy in the 50's. Good luck, there is plenty of help here.
