I have a belt driven buzz saw. Wouldn't dream of running it in front of a crowd of spectators. As long as the operator stays clear of blade, and stays out of the line of the blade itself, it is fairly safe to run. The danger of having a crowd around is that if the blade shatters, chunks of it will fly all different directions in-line with the blade travel. I would sure hate to see a spectator being in the wrong place at the wrong time and end up with a chunk of saw blade stuck in there head if the blade happened to shatter. You might want to restrict your belt pulley demonstration's to safer stuff, such as starting a stationary engine with a tractor by use of the drive belt. The crowd gets an idea of how the belt pulley works that way, and there is virtually no danger.
