They were used for plowing with a trailer plow. Designed so that when tractor would loose that couple inches on side hill you could make the plow maintain its width of cut. Most farmers only ever put the lever on while plowing. If you have one in good condition, you seem to have experience in fabricating. Just take the time to figure what it would cost to build one. They are not right plentiful and that is the only way a lot of people are going to have one. I know all about the torn clothing also, been there and done that. I guess the best reason why farmers only put it on tractor for plowing once or twice a year.
