why is everyone concerned with timing lights. You don't need one to do it right. just get # 1 near top dead center on the compression stroke and then look underneath in the hand hole cover by the clutch. It's hard to see but there is a mark on the flywheel that says dc14 or something like that. line that mark up with a line on the front flywheel cover. it is about an inch long up and down line stamped into the cover. You are now at top dead center. disconnect the coil wire from the cap and hold it about 1/8 inch away from the primary wire on the side of the distributer. turn the distributer clockwise I think. wichever way advances it real slow. when it is timed you will see a spark jump across the end of the coil wire to the primary wire. if you go too far just retard the distributer about 25 or 30 degrees and advance slowly again. stop as soon as it jumps the spark and tighten it down. one thing make sure the gap is set correctly first on the points or it will be off. this is the timing spec for most iron piston engines. if you have fire crators or something similar than go 1-2 degrees past where the spark jumps. one last thing make sure you pull out the ignition switch and dont hold the metal part of the coil wire. my son was pissed at me when he helped me time our super c because he said I didn't tell him that.

The nice thing about our old iron friends is that they are usually quite consistent in their response, rather unlike some people I know who might change what they say due to the weather or other mitigating circumstances. But since t
