Go to the Yesterday's Tractors homepage and look in the article on 12 Volt Conversions. In the very last section "10-SI Wiring Instructions" it talks about adding a diode to the electrical system to prevent electricity from running through the system when the engine is off. Could the lack of the diode be your problem?
