Like Dan mentioned, verify it's indeed a Super M.....there's lots of regular M's out there carrying "Super M" decals! In addtion to the C264 cast on the block, here's a couple more sure fire Super M spotting features: 1 - Disc brakes - all Super Ms have 'em. 2 - Date codes on large castings should end in "X", "Y" or "Z". Date code letters earlier in the alphabet mean the part was cast before 1952 - before the Super M came to market. If the tractor has live hydraulics here's a potential problem to be aware of: Abuse of the hydraulics can cause the cam drive gear hub to crack or work loose. The tractor may still run but won't develop full power. You may also hear metallic clunking from the front of the engine at idle - noise which goes away at higher RPM's or when the hydraulic pump is loaded. Not difficult or expensive to correct, but requires disassembling the entire front end of the tractor. Good luck - the Super M is a great tractor!!
