Probably the tractor chassis started life with a D248 diesel presuming the S/N is correct. Swapping in the 264 gas motor in there now would not have been big deal - it's pretty much a "drop in" replacement. Another way to tell it's history: If the tractor still has it's original hood there should be a hole on the top right center where the diesel exhaust once came out, and a new hole cut on the left side for the gas engine exhaust. Easy to add a hydraulic pump back to this setup. You can either stick a belly pump (Liftall) back in. These are fairly cheap. Or with the C264 you have the option of installing a live pump setup from a Super M, 400, 450, etc without having to mess around changing timing gears, front plate etc. like you would with a straight M. But good live pumps are kinda spendy and not as easy to fine. And yes...MD's have spark plugs, magneto (or coil and distributor) and a carburetor, all for starting. ...Bob M
