I would doubt that the axle would bend, they will usually break, I have seen them break and the steel is not regular steel, they must have used hardened steel or alloy of some kind, I work at a IH-Case-IH dealer now but in those days I worked in service when they put mounted pickers on a lot of M and some H. I would say you have a axle bearing failing, the leak indicates this. If you plan on keeping and using the tractor for awhile for insurance would advise you to check all 4 axle bearings and the 4 brake shaft bearings also. If you dont and keep running it you will eventually get a ball out of bearing and it will get between gears or something and ruin a tractor.
