If the engine is shut off and allowed to sit for an hour or two after ingesting the trans fluid, the fluid will soften the carbon in a badly sooted engine and allow it to be blown out when you restart the engine. This used to be a quick cure for an automobile that was driven only in town and never allowed to completely warm up.
