cdv, The resistor you've heard about is probably to protect the existing 6 volt coil if you feed it 12 volts. You'll need about 2 ohms rated at 50 watts to do the job. The least amount of new stuff you'll need to convert to 12 volts is: new battery, new regulator, new light bulbs. Typically, most guys stick in a 40 amp alternator. In my opinion and experience a good set of 0 gauge cables and a new battery will get a 6 volt system working fine, and if not, a generator rebuild and regulator cleaning will still accomplish the objective for less money than a conversion. The benefits of putting an 40 or greater amp alternator on a system that has a max draw of only 20 amps or so really does escape me. Of course, if you're putting a 250 watt car stereo system on your tractor, you'll need that 12V alternator. As for a diagram, your parts or service manual should clue you in. If not, BobM has been very good in posting a number of schematics. You can find them by searching the archieves here. Steve
