What we call a chiesel plow around here will typically have about 1 shank per foot of total width and the shanks are straight (no sweeps) and we normally pull them as deep as we can usaully in the fall. A field cultivator on the other hand has a shank about every 7-8 inches and are made a lot lighter with sweeps and don't run very deep 6-8" just before planting . As for a baler we use a 850 NH with a 65 hp David Brown tractor and have never had any problems (it does pull some hills really hard when your about to make a bale but always makes it) and it would be possible to clog the baler by going to fast or you just make a sloppy bale. That's how we do it. Brian
