I bought a 1066 a few years ago with the same noise you described. I only heard the noise at idle, around 1000 rpm and the noise would go away. The TA was weak on the low side so i figured a new TA will fix the problem. I ran it for 2 more years with no problems until the low quit working. At that time I put in a new TA and driven gear and needle bearing on the countershaft, the nut was not loose. Got it back together and still had the noise. Not as loud but I was disappointed, it was still there. That was 4 years ago and I'm still using it today with no problems. I put about a 100 hrs a year on it, some hard, most not. I chisel plow 80 acres a year. I'm not going to tear it apart to look for the noise unless it gets worse or someone can convince me that they know exactly what the problem is. I suspect the problem is with the spacers on the countershaft.
