I would never go back to 6v after converting all of our SH's and Smta's on a working farm. I just loved pulling the M with the spreader out of the corn crib backwards at 5 A.M. because it wouldn't turn over! It has never failed with 12V. I'm sorry but I can't understand how anyone puts up with 6V and I know how to make 6V work because I resisted converting them for many years and finally got so sick of it I did it. I use a nippondenso alternator on an H or M because it is much smaller than the delco. Any good starter shop can put one together for you. If you need it to charge at very low rpm as soon as it starts like on an elevator you can run a jumper from the low voltage side of the resistor to one of the spades on the alternator. If you need help figuring out which spade leave a pbost.
