I never used it in tractor tanks, but for large storage tanks, I would recommend them. By large I mean 10,000 gallons. This was my experience on board ship where we carried over 1 million gallons. The amount to treat that much fuel was only a few quarts. On small-scale tractor and truck use, I don't think they would be necessary.

I have attached a link for one manufacturer. No endorsement is implied, but they do state that their product is for treating large amounts of fuel stored for long periods of time, often with water in the tank (which is where the critters really live).
